Our first time on the subway headed to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum

A mural on the wall around the corner from where 9/11 took place

This was truly the best part of NYC. It was so emotional and raw.

What a beautiful tribute

Tom Lane is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art, Ceramic Area and a master mold maker who specializes in casting large porcelain vessels. 9/11 Memorial Urn is part of his ongoing research into conflict and loss.
According to Lane, the problem was simple. This memorial vessel had to be as beautiful as possible to honor the lives lost on 9/11. CAD design and CNC milling was used to give the vessel a perfection of form. “I wanted it be as if human hands had not touched it.”
The 9/11 Memorial Urn represents hundreds of hours of research time. 911 Memorial Urn is 51” high and 16” wide. It has been fired three times; the last firing fusing iron pigmented text to the surface of the white matte glaze. The lid contains the speech George Bush gave the evening of September 11, 2001. The remainder of the surface holds the 2,977 victim’s names from all the events of that tragic day.

Crafted by Waterford for the 2001/2002 Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball, the “Hope for Healing” design consists of three lit candles surrounded by outspread hands in a gesture of healing. In 2001, 195 of the 504 crystal triangles on the Ball were specially engraved by Waterford artisans with the names of the countries and regions that lost citizens, the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, the four airline flights, and the names of uniformed rescue organizations that lost members in the 9/11 tragedy.

Can you see Ryker's name?

The Allen family by the "Survivor Tree".
This tree withstood the collapse of the two towers and is still living today.

The waterfall memorial

Aleta and Erwin were helping a couple to place flowers in his brothers engraved name. He was a firefighter and lost his life that day trying to save the lives of other people.

The new World Trade Center
After the memorial we walked to the Hudson River and had some lunch.
Then we walked to see Madison Square Gardens and the Empire State Building
On the top made for some beautiful views of the city

Larkyn was obsessed with looking through these knockers.

We also made the walk to Grand Central Station. Erwin and I were pretty excited to see this.
It was worth the walk it was stunning inside.

Its not everyday you can play cars in the streets of NYC.

As we walked back to our hotel room we walked past Times Square and met up with some characters again.
