I HATE taking my babies to their well child visits. I hate to see them in pain when they get their shots. Ryker always had a bad reaction to the shots and Larkyn is following in his footsteps even tho I was smart enough to pr-medicate her with Tylenol. She had to have 5 shots because they ran out of the combined ones (REALLY?) and one oral vaccine. They did two in her right leg and three in her left. Her appointment was at 1:00 pm and by 7:00 that night she was screaming in pain and we could not comfort her so we ran back up the doctor. She was having a reaction to the vaccines in her right leg because it was red swollen and hot to the touch. She would scream if you touched either of her legs and was running a slight fever. I felt horrible. The doctor put her on an antibiotic (as a precaution if the vaccines made her body overwork and she had something before her appointment) and Tylenol (every 4 hours). Poor baby girl has been miserable and has not had much of an appetite but seems to be a little bit better now almost 48 hours after. No fever and pain but still needs to regain her appetite.
At our next appointment the doctor is going to separate those two vaccines (one in each leg) to see exactly which one she is having a reaction to. Hopefully she outgrows it and does just fine for the next set.... fingers crossed.
I took both kids with me to the doctors and Ryker was obnoxious to say the least. He was out of control and was not helpful one bit so I was frustrated. When Larkyn was getting her shots I told him I needed his help so he sat there with me and when she got poked he closed his eyes and said, "don't hurt my sissy". After they were finished I put him down and he looked at the nurse and said, "I am NEVER coming back here"! Maybe it wasn't a good idea to bring him. Hee Hee!
